Indian Open: 7 players test Positive for Covid

Mens number one seed Kidambi Srikanth along with 6 other players of Indian open badminton turned Covid positive.

Players tested positived have been kept under isolation and will not be taking part any further in the badminton championship. Badminton Association of India will not be adding a replacement for the seven players and their opponent would be given a walk over, confirmed by Badminton World Federation.

Besides World Championship silver medalist, Ashwini Ponnappa, Ritika Rahul Thkar, Treesa Jolly, Mithun Manjunath, Simran Aman Singh and Khushi Gupta.

“The Players returned a positive result to a mandatory RT-PCR test conducted on Tuesday. Doubles partners deemed close contact of the seven players have also been withdrawn from the tournamet” the world governing boday statment said.

N Sikki Reddy, Dhruv Kapila, Gayarthi Gopichand, Akshan Shetty and Kavya Gupta were also pulled out of the tournament as they are deemed close contact. However, they have returned a negative RT-PCR report.
