2011 World Cup Triumph – Sachin asked for “That particular bat”.

Boria Majumdar, the Sports Journalist shares unknown stories regarding the 2011 World Cup. 2011 World Cup Triumph took place with 14 national cricket teams with a colourful opening ceremony at Dhaka. The Indian team won the tournament and became the World Champions. This World Cup also gave pride to India to be the first country in history to win the Cricket World Cup final on home soil. He talks about “That particular bat” that Sachin asked for when playing against the England team. Sachin works on his own bat.

It is a ritual for him to practice in one particular bar for a long time. Sachin had told to Boria that he had no good reason to suddenly work on a new bat. After working on it for more than two and a half hours, he put it away.

When he had to play against England, he took his old bat and went to play. Sachin started off brilliantly and gave a full-blooded cover drive. To his shock, the ball did not travel. Later he realised that his bat was broken. 

He asked for “That particular bat” from the dressing table that he worked on. It is a blessing that a bat Sachin worked on without any reason without realising tha this old bat will break on the day of the match came as a saviour to strike more than 100 runs in the game.

Why did Sachin want to play cricket and win World Cup?

Sachin always had the dream to do something for the country. He says that he started playing cricket just for this reason. When it comes to the process, he says that it has been a long one. However, he also adds that he enjoys the game even now and he does not see any reason to change anything.

“As a young boy, I dreamt of winning this trophy, that’s where it all started. This is by far the best moment and it’s the one I have been waiting for for 24 years,” said Sachin after winning the tournament.

Both India and England scored 330 plus and it was a tie. Zahir Khan’s performance was a remarkable one as well in this particular match.
