Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri suggests Dinesh Karthik has an incredible chance to get into the team for the T20 World Cup. He believes that the wicketkeeper-batter will be a better choice for the Indian team when compared to Ishan Kishan. He took forward the current form of the two players as the reason for his choice.
Dinesh Karthik is supporting his team RCB with a great run of form. He proved his finishing skills with incredible power-hitting in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Karthik has totally scored 210 runs in eight games with an average of 105 and a strike rate of 200. His highest score was 66 not out and this gave RCB a win against Delhi Capitals.
The T20 World Cup will be played in Australia this year. Justifiably, many fans and former cricketers assert Karthik’s name to be considered for selection in the Indian team. Dinesh Karthik has last played for the country in 2019 during the ODI World Cup.
Even though Ishan Kishan has fair chances, he is struggling with the form for the Mumbai Indians in the current IPL season.
Ravi Shastri’s Opinion:
“I will go with the current form and the conditions. The kind of shots that can be played there and the experience coming into play, there’s no doubt about that. And when it comes to the fitness of a player, he is as fit as anyone around.” Ravi Shastri told ESPNCricinfo.
However, he said that it won’t be easy for Karthik to make it to the playing XI. But Karthik could surely be included in the squad for the event.
“He won’t make it to the 11, but he’ll be in the squad. I’m looking at Australia and the kind of conditions and pitches that are there and the kind of shots he has – the cut and the pull.” Ravi Shastri added.
