Gujarat Titans thrash Rajasthan Royals by nine wickets
IPL 2023 highlights, Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans Match: RR battle GT in Jaipur.
Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans IPL: Gujarat Titans made light work of a 119-run target set by Rajasthan Royals as the defending champions romped home with a commanding nine-wicket win in a one-sided Indian Premier League match.
After bundling Rajasthan Royals out for a mere 118 in 17.5 overs, a 71-run resolute opening stand between Shubman Gill (36) and Wriddhiman Saha (41 not out off 34 balls) set the platform for the huge victory, which was also accomplished with captain Hardik Pandya’s brisk 15-ball 39 not out (3x4s, 3x6s).
Gujarat Titans finished at 119 for one in 13.5 overs, winning with 37 balls to spare. Gujarat Titans thus also got back to winning ways against last year’s finalists Rajasthan Royals, handing them their fourth defeat in an overall five meetings, while consolidating their position at the top of the points table.
It was a rare chance for a team to build its net run rate and it didn’t take the Gujarat Titans openers much time to break the back of the chase. Small totals have been tough to chase over the last week, but with Wriddhiman Saha taking the initiative in targeting Trent Boult, the biggest threat was neutralised early on. The Kiwi left-armer’s first three overs went for 28 without reward, and it was only a question of when, not if.
Shubman Gill was allowed to play to his pace, before skipper Hardik Pandya came and made it a quick night for everyone as Adam Zampa had no answers to the onslaught. The result, with the margin of victory, put the Titans effectively two games ahead at the top of the table, also putting a dent in Rajasthan Royals’ numbers. They would do well to draw a line under this game and look ahead.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) Probable Playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson(w/c), Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jason Holder, Adam Zampa, Sandeep Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal
Gujarat Titans (GT) Probable Playing XI:
Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gil, Hardik Pandya(c), Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma, Joshua Little
RR have been forced to react to the early wickets. They played only five specialist bowlers which indicated that an extra bowler will come on. However, they have sent Riyan Parag and got an extra batter in. Their back of batting depth has forced this. A poor selection costing them? Yashaswi Jaiswal goes off.
