IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals race to 7-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangalore

Delhi Capitals have won the game by 7 wickets. They got off to a superb start in chase of 182 runs. While David Warner fell in the powerplay after providing the team a flying start with Phil Salt, the latter continued the carnage to score 87 runs off 45 balls. By the time he departed, the match was all but over for RCB.

Phil Salt starred with an 87-run knock off 45 balls as Delhi Capitals eased past Royal Challengers Bangalore by 7 wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. Chasing 182, DC reached home in 16.4 overs. Earlier, Mahipal Lomror played a superb knock as RCB posted 181 for 4. Lomror scored 54 not out off 29 balls while Virat Kohli too scored a fifty (55 off 46 balls). Mitchell Marsh was the pick of the bowlers for DC with figures of 2 for 21 in 3 overs. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis had won the toss and opted to bat first

Good running to get 2 more. And would you know it!! It’s a no ball!! Free hit. Nothing off the free hit. Gets two more and he’ll retain strike. A single to end. 

Delhi Capitals have been in desperate need of better showings in the powerplay. The struggles of their openers – David Warner’s IPL strike rate prior to this game was a dismal 118.46 – have led to the team losing ground early, and coming up against Mohammed Siraj, one of this tournament’s best bowlers with the new ball, was going to be a tough task.

But England opener Phil Salt not only accelerated well enough to set his team up for the run chase, but also totally deflated Suraj, smashing him for 19 in the fifth over. He hit three successive boundaries – two sixes including a top edge and a heave over cover – and then went on to hit a total of six boundaries in the powerplay leaving Delhi at 70-1 after the first six. They have desperately missed this kind of a contribution at the top
