Delhi Capitals win by 15 runs
Punjab Kings faced Delhi Capitals in high-voltage match of IPL on Wednesday. The match was played at PBKS’s homeground, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Both teams will be geared up to win the thriller.
Liam Livingstone’s 94-run knock went in vain as Delhi Capitals edged out Punjab Kings by 15 runs in their IPL 2023 match in Dharamsala. Livingstone fought a lone battle before perishing on the final ball of the 214-run chase. Earlier, Rilee Rossouw slammed an unbeaten 82 as Delhi Capitals piled 213/2 against PBKS. After DC were invited to bat first, David Warner (46) and Prithvi Shaw (54) added 94 runs for the first wicket. Shaw and Rossouw added 54 to keep DC ticking, before the latter took the game to the PBKS bowlers. For PBKS, Sam Curran took two wickets. PBKS won the toss and opted to bowl.
DC Anrich Nortje-When we got here yesterday, during training and before the game it felt good to be back in a venue with some carry. This is one of the best grounds in the world. (On his plan for today) Trying to use the conditions, wanted to change it up especially on a wicket like this where there was extra bounce. Was just focusing on what I needed to deliver. Nowadays the guys set up for pace, so we need to vary it with pace off from time to time. (On what he can improve on) At the start, I’d like to be a bit more effective. Assessing conditions better, and try to commit to one thing on the days it is coming out well, and otherwise just vary the lengths. I must say Kuldeep was our best bowler today, we made it difficult for him by dropping those many.
PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan after defeat
It was frustrating. We didn’t bowl really well in the first six wickets, we should have taken some wickets the way it was swinging. It’s quite a close game, but can’t help it. There was hope after that no ball, Livi played a great knock, unfortunately we couldn’t end up on the other side. I fell my decision to bowl spin off the last over backfired. The momentum also went there. Before that, my fast bowlers got hit for 18-20 runs. Those two overs cost us the game. Our bowlers didn’t pitch the ball up in the powerplay. That was the plan and unfortunately they couldn’t execute. In this sort of a wicket, whether we take wickets or not, we should bowl at the right areas which we are not doing for quite a long time. That’s hurting us. Every powerplay, we have been giving 50-60 runs. We knew that it’d swing for 1-2 overs. We lost the first wicket in the 2nd over and the 1st over was also a maiden – we lost six balls there.
