Sunrisers Hyderabad pull off joint-highest run chase in IPL 2023

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Royals must quickly forget the embarrassing defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans as they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 11th match of the Indian Premier League at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here on Sunday.
Nothing went right for the Royals against the defending champions at their home ground as they crashed to a nine-wicket loss, which also reduced their impressive NRR to 0.448. It was also RR’s joint-biggest defeat in Jaipur in terms of the number of balls remaining.

Abdul Samad’s final over blitz powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to four-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023 encounter in Jaipur on Sunday. With 17 required in six balls, it felt like Sandeep Sharma once again drove Rajasthan home but he overstepped in the final ball to hand SRH a second chance and they made full use of it. Samad then wrapped up the contest with a six, smashing a full delivery straight over the pacer’s head as SRH finished at 217/6 in response to Rajasthan’s 214/2. Apart from Samad, Glenn Phillips smashed 25 off 7 balls, smashing three sixes and a boundary in the penultimate over by Kuldip Yadav. Henrich Klaasen also played a crucial knock off 26 in 12 balls, while Rahul Tripathi scored 47 off 29 balls. Abhishek Sharma slammed a half-century and gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a decent start in the 215-run chase with Anmolpreet Singh. The pair added 51 before Yuzvendra Chahal provided the hosts with the first breakthrough in the form of Anmolpreet Singh, who departed for 33(25). Chahal went to add three more wickets to his tally and conceded 29 runs in his four overs. Earlier, Jos Buttler, who struggled in recent outings, roared back to form as he smashed a 59-ball 95 to power Rajasthan to a staggering 214/2 in 20 overs after they opted to bat. Buttler’s knock featured ten 4s and four 6s and he found great support from his skipper Sanju Samson, who returned unbeaten on 66(38). Together the duo added 138 runs for the second wicket after Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave Rajasthan an explosive start.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar | SRH captain: 100 per cent we can say that, let’s forget and move on, the way we pulled back in the last 6 overs and Umran’s cameo at the end. We did not bowl pretty well, first match of the season and a lot to improve. South Africans are coming back and we definitely will be a much better batting side, we have to move forward from this game. It was a pretty good track, we can prepare what we want but we are not worried about that.
