Ashwin retired out, draws eyebrows

R Ashwin gets retired out during match against LSG, the decision has left virtual world surprised.

During the match against LSG, saw the first batter in the history of IPL to be tactically retired out, Ashwin retired out in the 19th over. With this dismissal, Ashwin made a place for himself on the list of the first dismissal.

During the match against LSG, Ashwin was promoted to bat at no 6 ahead of regular batter Priyam Garg. Offspinner walked in to bat in the 10 over with RR reeling at 67/4. Ashwin along with Hetmayer added 68 runs before Ashwin was retired out.


Talking about Ashwin retired out, Hetmyer confessed that he isn’t aware of it, he turned around to see Ashwin sprinting off. Hetmyer did laud the decision as it eventually proved to be a worthy move.

During the post-match press conference, Sangakara shed light on the decision. “It was a collective decision, Ashwin himself is asking from the field, we were discussing it and I did a wrong decision by not giving enough time for Parag. Ashwin sacrificed himself and went on to bowl the way he did was outstanding”.

During the conversation, Sangakara also praised Yuzi Chala and Prasid for their bowling efforts.

Rajasthan who lost the toss and asked to bat first managed to give a moderate target of 166. Boult has stuck twice in the first over to send KL Rahul and Gowtham back to the pavilions with LSG reeling at 0/2 after 0.2 overs.

Earlier with the bat, Hetmyer scored 59 runs off 36 deliveries. Yuzi Chahal picked up 4 wickets, two for boult and one apiece for Praid and Kuldeep Sen. Ashwin went wicketless but bowled economically. With their third win, Rajasthan Royals are at the top of the points table with 6 points, 3 wins, and a loss. LSG with 6 points currently standing at 5 position.
