Robin Uthappa Reveals MS Dhoni’s conversation after IPL -2022 – “I had nothing to do with the decision”

Defending champions – Chennai Super kings performance was not satisfying in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 20222. They lost all four matches they played in this season. They have retained few star players, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja and Rituraj Gaikwad ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction. They managed to bring up mixed players of experienced and young in the auction. This might be challenging for CSK to build a strong team as old one.

CSK’s acquisition of Uthappa with a base price of INR 2 crore was like a steal. Robin Uthappa moved for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021 also continued in the current series. Before that he was playing for Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors and Kolkata Knight Riders.

CSK acquired Uthappa in IPL 2021 may be of the predicted fact, which they have lost two players from 2020. However significant slowdown of performance in last IPL matches has made his auction price to the base.

Robin opens up with his conversation with MS Dhoni:

Robin Uthappa and MS Dhoni were very close, that they both played for India together. CSK opener Uthappa revealed what MS Dhoni said after picking him up in the auction this year.

“MS called me after two days and said, ‘See you, bro’. He said ‘welcome to the team’. I said ‘thank you for having faith in me’. He said ‘I had nothing to do with this decision’. He said ‘I didn’t do anything because for two reasons. One is, for your own good. You should get into this side for your own credentials. Second is if I have anything to do with this decision, people will always think because you are my friend, I have picked you in the side. So, I had nothing to do with this decision,” Uthappa shared with Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

In the last IPL2021, Uthappa gave his best for CSK and scored 115 runs in 4 matches. Dhoni’s words gave him a fresh and new confidence in this current series.

“So when it came to me, I asked the support staff, coaching staff and the management. If they are fine with him, we are good to go. I don’t want anything to do with this decision. For me, it made me feel really good in the sense that from every angle, there was complete indemnity. It gave me the confidence that, the support staff had faith in me. For me, it was like ‘ok, now I can go there and do my own stuff’. And immediately I felt attached to the team,” he concluded with a confidence to put his best in this IPL 2022 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
