Yuvraj Singh criticises India’s lack of proper planning in 2019 world cup

Yuvraj Singh criticises India's lack of proper planning in 2019 world cup

Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has criticised Virat Kohli led Team India for lack of proper planning in 2019 world cup. He said changing batting position in the middle order affected Indian’s batting performances badly. He also raised questions on inexperience in batting. Former southpaw also said that there was a set batting position in 2011 and 2003 world cup.

Lack of proper planning in 2019 world cup : Yuvraj Singh

Speaking to Sanjay Manjrekar on Sports18’s show ‘Home of Heroes’, Yuvraj Singh said “When we won the World Cup (2011), we all had a set position to bat. I felt 2019 World Cup; they didn’t plan it well,”

He also stated that “They got Vijay Shankar to bat at 4 with just 5-7 ODIs, then they replaced him with Rishabh Pant, who had played 4 ODIs. When we played the 2003 World Cup, Mohammad Kaif, (Dinesh) Mongia and I had already played 50-odd ODIs.”

Meanwhile, India lost against Newzealand in 2019 world cup by 18 runs. In the semi-final chasing 240 runs to win, India didn’t chase the total despite of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni’s fighting knock. Since 2013 India hasn’t won any ICC tournament. Virat Kohli left leadership from all formats of cricket last year. Indian fans hope, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy Indian will win upcoming T20 world cup in Australia.

Test Cricket is dying : Yuvraj Singh

Former world cup winning member is concerned about the real format of cricket and also told that lots of money forces players to play shorter format of cricket.

“Test cricket is dying. People want to watch T20 cricket; people want to play T20 cricket. Why would someone play five-day cricket and get five lakh rupees and today play T20 cricket and get 50 lakh? Players who have not made it to international cricket are getting 7-10 crores.” said Yuvraj Singh.

“You watch a T20 game and then watch a 50-over game; it looks like a Test match now. After 20 overs, they are like, ‘There are 30 overs to bat! So, definitely T20 is taking over everything,” the 40 year old added.
