Former world no 1 Saina Nehwal crashed out of Indian Open, Nehwal lost to Malvika Bansod in straight sets. 21-17, 21-9 in the match which lasted for 34 minutes.

Former world no 1 Saina Nehwal crashed out of Indian Open, Nehwal lost to Malvika Bansod in straight sets. 21-17, 21-9 in the match which lasted for 34 minutes.

On Thursday Bansod became the second Indian player to beat Nehwal in any international match since 2017.

PV Sindhu advance to the quarter-finals along with Aakarshi Kashyap. Sindhu defeated Ira Sharma in straight sets 21-10, 21-10 while Kashyap beat Keyura with an identical score.

In 2017 Nehwal lost to PV Sindhu in Indian Open and never lost to Indian in the Indian open till today’s match.

“I was playing against her for the first time and was not thinking of winning or losing. My game plan was to just keep the shuttle in play and keep moving her” Said Bansod after the victory.

Earlier seven players were out of Indian open due to positive Covid RT-PCR test.
