IPL 2022: Ravindra Jadeja ruled out from CSK squad with rumours stirred up – CEO Kasi Viswanathan reacts

CSK’s Instagram handles unfollowed Jadeja, stirring up rumors of a rift between the CSK management and Ravindra Jadeja.

Ravindra Jadeja was released from CSK squad with rumors stirred up

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was released from the squad on Wednesday due to a rib injury. Jadeja was injured while trying for a catch during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 4. He continued to play that game but Jadeja was absent for the last match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, May 8.

CSK’s Instagram handles unfollowed Jadeja, stirring up rumors of a rift between the CSK management and Ravindra Jadeja. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told The Indian Express that Jadeja was released “on medical advice” after a rib injury.

CSK CEO’s reply to rumors of a rift:

“Social media, I absolutely do not follow anything. I have no knowledge of what is going on there. What I can tell you is that from the management side, there has been no problem and whatever is there on social media, I’m not aware. Jadeja firmly remains in the CSK’s scheme of things for the future, always,” CSK CEO said to The Indian Express

“Jaddu had an injury during the game against RCB and after that, he didn’t play the game against Delhi Capitals. On medical advice, it has been decided that he cannot participate further in this IPL and he is heading back home. He has been released” he said.

“Ravindra Jadeja reported a bruised rib and was unavailable for Chennai Super Kings’ game against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. He was under observation and based on medical advice he has been ruled out for the rest of the IPL season,” CSK said in a statement.

Jadeja relinquished CSK captaincy in the middle due to the poor performance of his team and also his form. CEO Viswanathan said that there was no fallout between them, but Jadeja’s teammates hinted that he wasn’t happy with the way the captaincy was changed.

“Yes, he has an injury, no doubt about it. But it is also true that all is not well between Jadeja and CSK management. Things have not been normal since he was unceremoniously dumped as captain. He felt let down and wasn’t his usual self after that”, a source in the CSK camp told Insidesport.

Ravindra Jadeja in IPL 2022:

Ahead of the season, CSK retained him for Rs 16 crore, and then made him the captain a couple of days before the tournament. After the leadership task, Jadeja was facing the most challenging tasks of his career. Jadeja said captaincy is like “big boots” on, but he was confident that he had Dhoni for support. CSK dint shows any improvement till eight matches and the responsibility pressure and critics were so high on Jadeja. After that, he stepped down from captaincy to concentrate on his game.

The leadership pressure also affected Jadeja’s own performance during this IPL season. Jadeja could only score 116 runs in 10 innings with an average of 19.33 and a strike rate of 118.36. While bowling, he took 5 wickets from 33 overs even with a poor fielding with an overall slumped form.

A CSK press release says: “Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK”.

“MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game.”

Dhoni’s opinion on Jadeja’s captaincy:

Dhoni said that the burden of captaincy affected Jadeja’s own performance. “I think Jadeja knew last season he would be captaining this year. For the first two games, I oversaw his work and let him be later. After that, I insisted he would take his own decisions and responsibility for them,” he had said at the post-match presentation, after CSK’s 13-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“Once you become captain, it means a lot of demands come in. But it affected his mind as the tasks grew. I think captaincy burdened his prep and performances” said Dhoni.

“See, if you look at it, many of the great Indian players are also going through a tough period in this IPL. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Maybe, the captaincy weighed a bit heavy on him, but we didn’t want to lose Jadeja, the player,” Viswanathan said.

CSK will play against Mumbai Indians on 12 May at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Even though MI is out of the playoff race, they play to spoil the other’s chance. CSK is in a compulsion to win the remaining matches and has slight chances for the playoff.
